Everyone started somewhere.

Too nervous to walk in?

Plenty of people walk past the door twice before their first class, wondering if they've made a mistake. Then they come in, someone shows them where to put their shoes, and the 6pm fundamentals class does the rest. Months later, they're the ones welcoming the new faces.

No time to train?

Shift work, school runs, a week that never seems to stop. You can train when the kids are in bed or straight after work, two nights some weeks and four in others. With £20 for your first month of unlimited classes, you train when life lets you.

Not fit enough yet?

Out of breath in the warm-up, sore for three days, back again on Thursday. That's how it starts for most people, because nobody starts fit. You don't get in shape before you come; you get in shape by coming.

Think you're too old?

Never too late. Coach Reiss started at 25 and won his world titles in his 30s.

Who it's for

Whoever
you are.

Most people walk in having never done a martial art. Some have trained for years. Everyone shares the same mats.

01

Complete beginners

Never trained, not especially fit, a bit nervous? That's most people on day one. Our beginners' classes start from the very basics.

02

Coming back

Trained years ago, or done another martial art or contact sport? Ease back in at your own pace and build from there.

03

Experienced grapplers

Advanced classes, good rounds and a team that competes together, from local opens to the world stage.

FAQ

Good
questions.

Anything else? Call or WhatsApp 07578 284838.

I've never trained. Can I start?

Yes. Our beginners' classes are made for complete beginners. You'll warm up as a group, learn the technique of the day, drill it with a partner and roll lightly at the end, at your own pace.

Do I need to be fit first?

No. You get fit by training, not before. Work at your own pace and take a break whenever you need one.

Do I have to spar?

Want to spar in week one? You can, when you're ready. Not ready? Watch or sit out. Tap, and it stops. You'll never be forced to do anything you don't want to.

Will I get hurt?

You spar when you're ready, not before: in week one if you like, or watch and sit out if you're not. Tap, and it stops. Our coaches keep beginners' classes controlled and safe, and everyone looks after their training partners.

Am I too old?

Almost certainly not. Coach Reiss started at 25 with no sports background, and both of his world titles came in the Masters divisions, for athletes over 30. You train at your own pace, rest whenever you need to and spar only when you're ready. [Placeholder: members who started in their 40s or later, with permission]

What do I wear?

Most of our classes are in the gi. We lend you one for your first week; after that, a loaner is £10 a class, or you can get your own. Wear a t-shirt or rash guard underneath, keep your nails short, and bring water and flip-flops.

How does the £20 trial month work?

You get a month of unlimited adult classes for £20. After your first month, your membership continues at £70 a month (2 classes a week) unless you cancel. You can cancel any time, during the trial or after. See all prices.

How do I book classes?

Through the Gymdesk app or the online timetable. If a class is full, join the waiting list.

Is BJJ OK for women?

Absolutely. Women train in every class on the timetable, from beginners' sessions to advanced.
